Net Zero Commitment
Climate change represents one of the most significant global challenges of our time. Addressing it requires coordinated, conscious, and sustained action from organisations and individuals alike.
As part of our wider social responsibility agenda, NexGenOps has committed to achieving net‑zero carbon emissions by 2027. This is an ambitious target that has been embedded into our company strategy, delivery model, and internal policies to ensure every member of NexGenOps actively contributes to this mission.
NexGenOps’ GHG Emissions
To measure the environmental impact of our operations, NexGenOps uses the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, the globally recognised standard for emissions accounting. The protocol categorises emissions across three scopes:
Scope 1 – Direct emissions
Emissions generated from the direct combustion of fuel by the organisation (e.g., boilers, company vehicles).
Scope 2 – Indirect energy emissions
Emissions resulting from purchased electricity, heating, or cooling.
Scope 3 – Indirect operational emissions
Emissions generated indirectly across the value chain (e.g., employee commuting, business travel, purchased goods and services, cloud usage, waste).
Scope Assessment for NexGenOps
- NexGenOps does not produce any emissions under Scope 1, as we do not operate company-owned vehicles or fuel-powered equipment.
- Our main office, based in Manchester, is leased from a landlord committed to sustainable building management practices. The office operates on 100% renewable electricity, enabling us to report zero Scope 2 emissions.
- As a technology and consulting organisation, the majority of our carbon footprint falls under Scope 3, including business travel, digital services, employee commuting, SaaS/cloud platform usage, and the goods/services purchased to support our operations.
Based on our internal assessment and external reference benchmarks, NexGenOps’ estimated emissions per FTE (full‑time equivalent) are 0.118 tonnes CO₂e, all attributed to Scope 3 categories. Understanding these emissions allows us to identify practical, measurable reductions and form the basis of our long‑term reduction strategy.
NexGenOps’ Emission Reduction Strategy
To reach our target of net‑zero emissions by 2027, NexGenOps is prioritising the following focus areas:
1. Ways of Working
We continuously evaluate the emissions produced by our business activities and adopt changes that meaningfully reduce our impact.
This includes:
- Minimising business travel by prioritising hybrid and remote collaboration
- Encouraging low‑carbon commuting options
- Reducing the environmental impact of cloud usage and digital tools
- Regularly reviewing operational policies through a sustainability lens
2. Waste Management
We aim to reduce waste across all areas of the business by:
- Prioritising digital documentation over printing
- Reusing and responsibly recycling IT equipment
- Reducing single‑use materials within the office
- Selecting office supplies with minimal environmental impact
3. Supply Chain Sustainability
We recognise the importance of working with partners who share our commitment to sustainability. NexGenOps will:
- Prioritise suppliers and service partners who align with our net‑zero objectives
- Include environmental criteria in supplier selection and review processes
- Maintain transparency in procurement to avoid high‑impact suppliers
4. Offsetting as a Last Resort
Where reductions are not possible through operational changes, NexGenOps will offset unavoidable emissions through high‑quality, verified carbon offset schemes.
Offsetting is used only after all practical reduction measures have been exhausted.
